Climate Change : What Everyone Needs to Know®

Joseph Romm (senior fellow, American Progress) is a renowned climate science scholar and an advocate for avoiding dangerous climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. His latest book, Climate Change: What Everyone Needs to Know, provides an overview of climate change science, possible issues, and proposed solutions. Following an introduction about the fundamental science of climate change, Romm explores topics ranging from the effects of climate change on extreme weather to international political considerations and actions individuals can take to minimize their environmental impacts. The work's breadth of coverage is impressive; it accurately reflects the positions of contemporary climate and social scientists who weigh costs and benefits of proposed solutions. The book is formatted as a series of questions and answers, which allows readers to easily discover specific information. The question-and-answer format also allows Romm to address authentic concerns about the future. He supports his answers by citing relevant literature and provides a list of primary sources and notes. The last few chapters could have been supplemented with added figures, but the book remains readable and informative. Summing Up: Recommended. Lower- and upper-division undergraduates; professionals and practitioners; general readers. --Justin T. Schoof, Southern Illinois University
