Kate Appleton is broke. Her parents have moved out of state but not before telling their unemployed, newly single daughter that she can have their lake house, the Nutshell. There's only one catch: Kate has to take over the mortgage payments. Kate loves the Nutshell and has plans to turn it into a bed-and-breakfast. But first, she needs money, and the only way to get the necessary funds is to get a job. Matt Culhane is having problems at his microbrewery, and he suspects foul play. He needs a spy, someone his staff doesn't know. Kate takes the job, eager to earn the special bonus she'll receive when she catches the culprit. However, there's danger ahead when the person who really wants Matt out of business is willing to commit murder. Evanovich is known for her humor, and she and Kelly skillfully combine comedy with romance and suspense to make a story sure to please readers.--Mosley, Shelley Copyright 2010 Booklist

On a mission to keep her parents' run-down lakeside summer home out of foreclosure and turn it into a bed-and-breakfast, Kate Appleton needs a job-and fast. She jumps at microbrewery owner Matt Culhane's off-the-wall offer to become a spy at his brewery and taproom and help him find out who has been sabotaging his operation. But with Kate knowing very little about (and not even liking) beer, a dangerous villain in the mix, and attraction sparking between our protagonists, nothing will be as simple as it sounds. Sassy dialog, laugh-out-loud humor, vastly appealing characters, and an intriguing setting make this fast-paced, suspenseful romance one to imbibe. VERDICT A mystery/romantic suspense luminary teams up with the current president of the Romance Writers of America to produce a refreshing read that will keep readers smiling-whether they are brew fans or not. Evanovich lives in Florida; Kelly lives in Michigan. [See Prepub Alert, 8/1/11.] (c) Copyright 2011. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.

In Evanovich and Kelly's romantic comedy, Kate Appleton returns home to Keene's Harbor, Mich., to reclaim her family fortune and-more immediately-find a job. There, she allies herself with microbrewery owner Matt Culhane, who suspects an employee is sabotaging his beer. Matt hires Kate as a spy, but complications arise due to Kate's allergies and because of her emerging romance with Matt. Lorelei King narrates in a clear, clean voice, and her rendition of Kate is cute, spunky, and enthusiastic. While King's delivery is at times stiff, particularly during Kate's conversation in early chapters, her rendering of Matt is looser; he sounds world-weary and wry. And as the romance peaks and Matt and Kate share adventures, King hits her stride, ably handling the snappy dialogue between Matt and Kate in a way that distinguishes both characters and is absolutely fun to listen to.
