Basic Physics for All
CHOICE
Copyright American Library Association, used with permission.
This brief book by Kumar (Wagner College) is a listing of the introductory notions of physics. Explanations are clear and to the point, but not rambling, and mathematics is kept to a minimum. Unlike a dictionary, the ideas are grouped into chapters, much like a beginning physics textbook. The chapters include "Statics," "Dynamics," "Hydrostatics," "Sound," "Heat," "Light," "Magnetism," "Electrostatics," and "Current Electricity." Each chapter is literally a numbered list of descriptions of the concepts. The book includes a total of 184 concept descriptions, most just a few sentences in length. Though it is written at the high school level, it is a handy reference for anyone needing a quick and easy explanation of basic physics ideas. The work would serve as a helpful supplement to science classes or as a valuable aid in preparation for standardized exams. Readability is enhanced by 87 figures. Summing Up: Recommended.
