Herbal Antivirals : Natural Remedies for Emerging and Resistant Viral Infections

Herbalist Buhner (Herbal Antibiotics) expands upon his goal of finding ecologically sustainable, human-friendly options for healing in his latest book. Starkly critical of medical "hubris," the author compiles a staggering traditional scientific bibliography and uses it to both build his case and deconstruct the status quo. Equally inconsistent is the book's tone. The scientist may find the mix of lay and scientific terminology unnerving; the uninitiated may cling tightly to a dictionary as the text speeds from DNA to cytokine kinetics. Occasional missteps on the sentence level mar the book. For example, the author uses phrases such as "[giving] viruses the nutrients they need," when, by definition, viruses need no nutrients. However, a detailed review of herbs demonstrates the depth of Buhner's knowledge of their applications. (Oct.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
