Peterson Field Guide to Ferns, Second Edition : Northeastern and Central North America

CHOICE

Copyright American Library Association, used with permission.

This pocket-sized classic by Cobb (deceased) and Farnsworth and Lowe (both, New England Wild Flower Association) has a long history distinguished by its usefulness to anyone interested in northeastern and central North American fern identification. This revision of a book first published in 1956 takes into account new information about ferns, fern allies, their evolution, and changes in botanical names. Common names have not been abandoned, however, so longtime users can be assured of a degree of comfort with this guide. Excellent drawings and color photos are liberally provided. The book includes an updated bibliography, a new section on fern habitats and conservation, and new information on fern gardening and uses. A good glossary and a list of useful Web sites enhance the text. ^BSumming Up: Recommended. Academic and public libraries in the regions covered. L. G.
